Portal

About the Portal

The My Cal Poly Portal project supports several facilities with which developers may create content and applications for delivery via the portal and Web application framework.

Portal & Web Application Development Toolkit and Life-cycle Support (dev/test/prod)

  • Scope/Capabilities: Qualified developers may obtain a portal and Web application development toolkit for creating applications targeted for delivery via the My Cal Poly portal and its supporting infrastructure. Developer kits include sandbox, CVS repository, database, source code, portal framework with integrated directory, groups, and security models, developer assistance, (approved) access to campus data, project reviews, dev/test/production rollout support, and other critical services.
  • Cost/Resources: None. Requires fundamental understanding of Java server-side Web application development, additional experience with XML/XSLT transformations recommended.
  • Campus Constituents: All; projects must meet baseline requirements for Cal Poly acceptable use policies.

Simple Portal Application Development Resources

  • Scope/Capabilities: In addition to complex multi-screen and interactive Web applications, the My Cal Poly Portal also provides basic 'push' announcement and news bulletin-like facilities for advertising important information via the Announcements channel or personalized/branded RSS channel feeds.
  • Cost/Resources: None. RSS feeds require that the channel content be served from a basic HTTP (Web) compatible server such as Central UNIX.
  • Campus Constituents: All; projects must meet baseline requirements for Cal Poly acceptable use policies.
