Setting Up a Personal Web site at Cal Poly
Personal Web sites have several options depending on the complexity and needs of your web site requirements. Personal web sites can be as basic as creating a site for your class or displaying your personal information such as vitae, hobbies, etc. Personal web sites are not required to adhere to Web addressing (URL), minimum page element, and other style requirements. However, they cannot be used for advertising and for profit enterprises. Please reference the Cal Poly ITS Responsible Use Policy regarding use of State resources for personal use.
Web Site Hosting Resources
Personal Web sites can be published onto the following resources:
- Individual Account on Central Unix
- Department (owned) Web server (primarily faculty and staff)
- Department Account on Central Unix (primarily faculty and staff)
- Educational Web Services (Cal Poly Corporation)
- Outsource and host external to the campus
Disk quotas will influence the amount of information you choose to provide and where you will locate your Web pages.
Please note that Cal Poly does not make direct links to personal Web pages for Students, Faculty, or Staff from the main Cal Poly WWW pages. See the Getting Linked section for more information.
